Most Read from Bloomberg Near-record prices have cooled industrial demand for metals such as copper in China, the world's largest consumer. Exchange inventories have started to rise, helping to rebuild reserves after large volumes were shipped to the US ahead of anticipated tariffs. The hoard of copper in warehouses tracked by the LME rose 4.6% to 221,625 tons on Tuesday, helping bring total stocks at exchanges in Shanghai, London and New York further above 1 million tons. LME lead stocks also surged on Tuesday, and nickel inventories hit the highest since 2018. The LMEX Index, which tracks the six main base metals traded in London, hit a record last month on a wave of Chinese buying, coupled with a weaker US dollar.
