(Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images) Getty Images Retail sales are expected to grow by 4.4 percent this year, a stronger pace than in 2025, and well above the 10-year-growth average, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF). The current situation in the Middle East is too uncertain to factor in its impact on retail sales, Mark Mathews, Chief Economist and Executive Director of Research at NRF, said. The forecast could be revised in coming months “if circumstances dictate,” Mathews said. The NRF typically skirts controversial topics in these presentations, but the fact that there was no discussion at all about shipping concerns or gas prices is an indication of how volatile and changeable the Middle East situation is.
