A source familiar with the sales process told Skift that Barclays advised Tiqets on the sale, while Morgann Lesné, a partner at Cambon Partners, confirmed that founder Luuc Elzinga and the board explored multiple paths to find a buyer. In a formal sales process, the bank solicits bids from multiple parties. One factor shaping the process: Airbnb, which led a $60 million funding round for Tiqets in 2019 and remains a shareholder, did not go ahead and buy it. “Everyone thought maybe at some point Airbnb is going to make a move, which I think was the initial hope of the founders and shareholders that Airbnb would be the eventual buyer,” said Lesné. And what about Booking.com , which has a fast-growing experiences business and is also based in Amsterdam? “People are thinking, why aren't the natural people doing it?” one industry executive told Skift, referring to Airbnb and Booking.com.
