Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that the county is expanding free Covid-19 testing to all essential workers – whether they are experiencing any symptoms or not— as of April 22. Those eligible for testing included physicians, nurses, caregivers, hospital janitors, grocery store, pharmacy and other retail workers and others in government and Covid-19 related roles. Permitted workers, who are not in "essential" categories, are not yet eligible for the Covid-19 tests in Los Angeles. First responders including police and fire fighters have their own dedicated lanes at Los Angeles County testing centers, and are now tested daily. In the past day, Los Angeles tested 12,200 people for the virus, Garcetti said. — Lora Kolodny The Illinois Department of Public Health reported
