Banco Santander upped to Overweight, BBVA cut to Equal Weight at Barclays [Seeking Alpha]

Banco Santander ( SAN ) stock rose 1.9% in Monday afternoon trading, while BBVA ( BBVA slipped 0.9% "By our estimates, SAN has the most positive EPS progression into 2025 across our Spanish bank coverage, which is also better than the average for European banks," analyst Cecilia Romero Reyes wrote in a note to clients. Themes working in Santander's ( SAN ) favor include negative rate sensitivity, volume growth, and cost-cutting efforts. SAN has underperformed other Spanish banks this year at 16% YTD compared with the average of 25%. Romero Reyes moved BBVA ( BBVA ) to Equal Weight after the stock jumped 33% since the beginning of 2024. "We increase our price target from €10.1 to €11.4 to reflect lower risk in both Mexico and Turkey, as we now see CoE (cost of equity) at c.13.4% (versus 14% before) as well as higher volume growth in FY25 for Mexico," the analyst added. The Overweight rating on SAN compares with the SA Quant rating of Buy, while the Equal Weight recommendation
