Bloomin' Brands Inc. said during Thursday premarket trading that it has $304 million cash on hand and expects weekly cash burn of $8 million to $10 million at recent sales levels. Shares rose 3.1%. Bloomin' chains include Outback Steakhouse, Bonefish Grill, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine bar and Carrabba's Italian Grill. Sales steadily rose each week in March and the first two weeks in April at each chain. For example, U.S. sales at Outback for the week ending March 1 were $12.7 million. For the week ending April 12, sales were $33.2 million, including the benefit of the Easter holiday. Overall U.S. same-store sales for the quarter were down 10.4%, with Outback falling 9.5% and and Fleming's sinking 13.2%. For the five weeks ending March 29, U.S. same-store sales plummeted 31%. Bloomin' has not furloughed or terminated any of its employees, according to a statement from Chief Executive David Deno, and has provided four weeks of relief pay and free meals.
