President Donald Trump on Friday, Dec. 19, announced nine pharmaceutical companies have agreed to sell medications at lower prices, part of his administration's effort to lower drug prices to levels paid by other nations. In an Oval Office announcement, Trump said the drug companies Amgen, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol Myers Squibb, Genentech, Gilead, GSK, Merck, Novartis and Sanofi have agreed to "most favored nation" drug pricing deals. The announcement comes two days after Trump defended his administration's efforts to improve affordability during a primetime address and Congress failed to address rising health insurance costs for 22 million Americans who face steep Affordable Care Act price increases beginning Jan. 1. "This represents the greatest victory for patient affordability in the history of American health care, by far, and every single American will benefit," Trump said.
