Santander has held exploratory talks around moving assets from its 7.6 billion UK pension scheme, which reported a surplus that increased by 20% to 527 million in the six months through June. NatWest's pension fund, which held about 29.5 billion of assets at the end of 2024, has also been in discussions with advisers about potentially selling a portion of its plan later this year, following a 2024 agreement to transfer risks linked to roughly a third of its liabilities to insurer Rothesay.
