billionaires' lifetime of charitable giving and spotlights their current wealth plus the current value of the wealth they have already given away. The purpose is to contextualize which billionaires would be much wealthier today had they not become large philanthropists, and highlight which billionaires have a spot at the top of Forbes' wealth lists because they have not given much away. The new methodology is designed to create a ranking for “true net worth” that better reflects the full scale of wealth creation and societal impact.
