would be one of the biggest takeovers ever of an American firm by a French corporation. The discussions are part of Schneider Electric's strategy to build up its capabilities in industrial technology, and are at an early stage, it said Friday. The disclosure comes after Reuters reported this week that Bentley is exploring a sale, with Schneider Electric among the companies interested in a potential bid, citing people familiar with the matter who it didn't name. Pennsylvania-based Bentley Systems provides software for engineering and construction projects, from bridges and airports to utilities and mines. A representative from Bentley didn't immediately respond to a request for comment outside of regular business hours. Bentley Systems shares rose 3.9% on Thursday to close at $52.06, giving the company a market value of about $17 billion. Schneider Electric fell as much as 4.2% in early Paris trading Friday. It has a market capitalization of about €121 billion ($129 billion).
