OpenAI and ChatGPT are under investigation in a criminal case in the state of Florida. Just over a year ago on April 17, 2025 a gunman killed two people and injured six others on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee. Florida's Attorney General, James Uthmeier says that ChatGPT offered “significant advice” to the shooter. “The communication between the shooter and ChapGPT revealed that the chatbot advised the shooter on what type of gun to use, on which ammo went with which gun, on whether or not a gun would be useful in short-range.
