The rating cut was based on the expectation that inflationary headwinds, substantial debt, and competition from other casinos would pressure results. The firm projects a mid-single-digit increase in revenue for Boyd Gaming ( BYD ) in 2024, even though earnings should rise modestly. Analyst John Staszak warned that the company's Las Vegas Locals segment will likely be pressured by the opening of a competitor's location. "Earnings should benefit from solid revenue growth and the company's share buyback program; however, this will likely be offset in part by higher operating expenses and costs related to renovations." Staszak noted that on a more positive note, BYD's Downtown Las Vegas segment is poised to grow following the addition of several locations. He also expects the online segment to continue to report strong results.
