Equities fluctuated, following their biggest selloff since January. Bonds stabilized somewhat after the U.S. Treasury kept its quarterly debt sales steady and said it will start buybacks this month. The latest private payrolls reading pointed to a still solid labour market. Fed officials are poised to keep rates steady for a sixth consecutive meeting and signal no plans for cuts in the near future after higher-than-expected inflation. The rate decision, and possibly an announcement on the pace of its balance-sheet reduction program, will be released at 2 p.m. in Washington. Chair Jerome Powell will hold a press conference 30 minutes later. The S&P 500 hovered near 5,030. Treasury 10-year yields fell four basis points to 4.64 per cent. The U.S. dollar was little changed.
