diluted EPS dropped to $1.06 from $10.38 as wholesale egg prices eased, driving a steep year-over-year decline in gross profit and operating income. Strategic pivot toward specialty and prepared foods: Specialty eggs rose to 50.5% of shell egg sales (from 24.4% a year ago) and prepared foods to 9.5% of net sales, with management prioritizing specialty expansion, structured pricing, and plans to grow prepared foods capacity by more than 30% over the next 18–24 months. Strong liquidity and shareholder returns: The company ended the quarter with $1.152 billion in cash and is virtually debt-free, repurchased $24.3 million of stock under a $500 million authorization (about $350.8 million remaining) and declared a variable dividend of roughly $0.36 per share.
