eventually produce enough energy to power half of Ohio's needs, U.S. Sen. Jon Husted told The Dispatch. Husted said he spoke to U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick about two weeks ago and was told the facility would produce about 9 gigawatts of power. All of the homes in Columbus consume about a gigawatt of electricity. Husted said the Commerce Department and possibly President Donald Trump plan to release more details in the coming days. He suggested watching Trump's State of the Union address Feb. 24. The exact location has not been disclosed. However the federal government owns land on and near the former Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Pike County. Some of that land is already being developed for small nuclear reactors, a cleaner more efficient method of producing energy.
