As the war between the U.S.-Israel and Iran continues, Wall Street's "fear index" hit the highest point since October 2025. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) is a popular measure of the stock market's expectation of volatility based on S&P 500 index options. It is calculated and disseminated on a real-time basis by the CBOE Global Markets and is often referred to as Wall Street's "fear index." VIX surged as much as 20% to hit the intraday high of 28.57 on March 6. It's the highest point since the index hit the intraday high of 28.99 points on Oct. 17 last year.
