The $1.9B Uranium Pact Powering a Canada–India Reset - Moby THE GIST While their neighbors are busy attacking or defending air strikes, India and Canada have chosen to look toward co-operation and collaboration. The two countries' leaders met in New Delhi and shook hands on what they call a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). It's a free trade agreement aimed at boosting bilateral trade to almost six times today's level over the next five years. WHAT HAPPENED The Indo-Canadian trade is worth about $9 billion today. But Prime Ministers Mark Carney and Narendra Modi are finalizing a pact by the end of this year to bump that number to $50 billion in the next five years. Both leaders signed a long-term uranium supply agreement of $1.9 billion under which Canada's mining sector, notably Cameco, will sell uranium to India to support its expanding civil nuclear energy program.
