Energy Producer Central Puerto May Offer Real Opportunity Amid Argentinian Chaos Summary For those with strong nerve, NYSE-listed Argentine energy producer Central Puerto appears to offer compelling risk/reward with a value easily 3x the current price. The stock sold off massively earlier this week on fears of asset appropriation, price controls and/or other risks from a potential populist Argentinian government. While there clearly is the potential for a bad outcome, it seems the market may have overdone the pessimism here. It's extremely hard to justify the valuation at these levels. Central Puerto's contracts are generally priced in dollars, creating insulation from currency weakness. Also, the government in the medium-term needs increased energy supply in Argentina, reneging on contracts may jeopardise that.
