sales are about more than blockbuster seven-figure grail watches. There are plenty of more affordable, fun watches hitting the block next week at Sotheby's, Christie's and Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo. At Christie's and Sotheby's the fall auctions are particularly rife with unique and value-priced ladies' watches, and Phillips is offering some quirky alternatives to the usual high-status wristwear, also at comparably accessible prices (well under $50,000). Here is a review of the top lots, along with a few interesting alternatives coming to auction next week. Phillips is making a splash at its December 6 auction with the collection of Francis Ford Coppola, the highlight of which is the F.P. Journe FFC Prototype, estimated to sell in excess of $1 million.
