The space will now operate under the new name: Rockingham Grand Casino, according to the Louisville, Kentucky-based company. Fitting to the history of the former Rockingham Park racetrack it is being developed on, much of the space is expected to have a horse racing theme. Churchill Downs bought 90% of the casino project from the Cordish Companies for $180 million in August, according to its third quarter filings. Local developers Joe Faro and Sal Lupoli will remain on as minority owners. The company operates Casino Salem out of 19,000 square feet of the former Lord & Taylor anchor shop. Eventually, the casino will occupy 160,000 square feet over three floors and feature 825 historical racing machines, 32 table games, 12 electronic table game seats, 900-seat live entertainment venue, according to a news release.
