UK used car sales grow by 6.5% in Q1 2024 [Yahoo! Finance]

This is said to mark the strongest beginning to a year since 2019. The growth, spanning 16 months, reflects an improvement in the supply of new cars, enhancing the availability and choice of second-hand vehicles. However, despite this positive trend, the market is still 2.6% below pre-pandemic levels. During the quarter, battery-electric vehicle sales surged by 71%, reaching 41,505 units and claiming a 2.1% market share. BEVs have become the fastest-growing powertrain segment, as more consumers are drawn to their cost-saving and environmental benefits. Hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) also reported sales growth, with HEVs up by 49.3% and PHEVs by 42.5%.
