Let's first review my 2018 Top Picks , which was a mixed bag to say the least. I divided selections into 1) Best overall pick for a general market (S&P 500 focused) environment, 2) Best overall aggressive growth pick, 3) Best value pick and 4) Best rebound pick. My top overall pick in 2018 was the BlackRock Enhanced Capital & Income fund ( CII ) , $14.08 market price, $15.28 NAV, -7.9% discount, 7.1% current market yield . I would have no problem picking CII again as a top selection as its diversified portfolio, defensive option-income strategy, low expense ratio, wide discount and reasonable 6.5% NAV yield with a windfall 7.1% current market yield, makes CII much more attractive in my opinion than just about any other S&P 500 focused fund. Like so many other equity CEFs in 2018, CII saw its discount widen from -6.5% at the beginning of the year to a current -7.9%.
