The battle for the drivers' championship has intensified after McLaren duo and title contenders Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri got disqualified post-race in the previous round in Las Vegas due to excessive plank wear on their cars. The Woking outfit's double DSQ and Max Verstappen's dominant victory in Sin City have brought the Dutchman into the title range, as he now finds himself within the points equivalent to one race victory of current leader Norris. Verstappen also moved level on points with Piastri (366), with the latter holding second place in the standings on countback of race wins - seven to Verstappen's six. This weekend's Qatar Grand Prix features the final sprint of the season, which means a maximum of 33 points are up for grabs for a driver. Norris knows he cannot afford any further slip-ups if he wants to leave Qatar as the world champion, as both Verstappen and Piastri will be ready to pounce on any mistake to keep the title race alive until the final showdown
