This marks F1's first three-way title showdown in 15 years, and it's also the first time the championship will be decided in the final race since the controversial Abu Dhabi finale in 2021 when Verstappen snatched the title from Lewis Hamilton. Now Verstappen is back in the hunt for a fifth consecutive crown, while the McLaren duo of Norris and Piastri are both chasing a maiden title and the team's first drivers' championship since 2008. Norris is the favorite to win the championship on paper as he holds a 12-point lead over second-placed Verstappen and 16 over Piastri. All he needs is a podium finish on Sunday and the title will be his regardless of what his rivals do. Even if he finishes fourth or fifth, he can still be crowned champion if Verstappen ends up second or lower. There are other scenarios which would see the Briton win the title from lower positions but the safest way for him is to keep his title fate in his own hands and finish in the top three.
