Oil edges up to mark first gain in 4 sessions Oil futures edged higher on Thursday to mark their first gain in four sessions, a day after a surprise rise in U.S. crude inventories and a broader commodity rout took the U.S. benchmark to a more-than-two-month low. The U.S. benchmark, West Texas Intermediate crude for September delivery CLU8, +0.69% tacked on 45 cents, or 0.7%, to settle at $65.46 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, recouping a small portion of the 3% it lost a day earlier. October Brent crude LCOV8, +0.95% the global benchmark, rose 67 cents, or nearly 1%, to $71.43 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe. Oil dropped sharply Wednesday , extending losses after data from the Energy Information Administration showed U.S. crude inventories rose 6.8 million barrels versus expectations for a decline of 2.4 million.
