U.S. benchmark oil futures settled Wednesday at their lowest since early 2002. The Energy Information Administration reported Wednesday a 19.2 million-barrel weekly rise in U.S. crude supplies-"a reminder that stockpiles are still ballooning and that the entire world continues to fill up whatever storage capacity remains," said Edward Moya, senior market analyst at Oanda. A report Wednesday from the International Energy Agency, meanwhile, "reminded energy traders that the historic pact between the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies "can't cover the coronavirus pandemic demand shock," Moya said in a market update. May West Texas Intermediate oil fell 24 cents, or 1.2%, to settle at $19.87 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. That was the lowest finish for a front-month contract since February 2002, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
