U.S. benchmark oil futures edged higher on Friday, but suffered a roughly 32% loss for the week, the largest weekly percentage decline on record, on persistent demand concerns and lack of storage capacity. "Well-placed fears that the world is fast running out of storage for crude buffeted oil prices this week," said Caroline Bain, chief commodities economist at Capital Economics, in a note. "The market is likely to be characterised by considerable price volatility for at least another month until global oil demand reaches its trough." June West Texas Intermediate oil rose 44 cents, or 2.7%, to settle at $16.94 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, extending a nearly 20% rise from a day earlier brought on by a rise in U.S.-Iran tensions. For the week, the contract lost 32.3% from the week-ago finish.
