Next Level Burger CEO Matt de Gruyter expanded his 10-location, fast-casual, plant-based burger chain by acquiring 17 Veggie Grill's in January 2024. “We're out to maximize our positive impact on the world through scale,” he says, and 26 locations (since it has to close one outlet) multiplies its outlets by two-and-a-half times. The CEO says that the post-acquisition valuation cost the company about $80 million overall, but was worth the investment. All the locations are company-owned, and none is franchised. Next Level Burger outlets, which debuted in 2013, can be found in six states—Oregon, Washington, California, Colorado, Texas and New York and is headquartered in Bend, Oregon. It added Massachusetts via its acquisition. The acquired chain became Veggie Grill by Next Level, which some might find a bit of an awkward name, but de Gruyter says indicates “the start of a new book, not just a new chapter.” So Veggie Grill maintains many of its favorites on the menu, but adds new
