The company on Tuesday said it reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice after investigators discovered foodborne sickness problems; more than 1,000 people fell ill in 2015-2018.And yet Chipotle this week said sales climbed by nearly 8% in the first quarter as it adapted to new customers needs amid the coronavirus pandemic and improved its takeout service. “We already take steps to ensure safety, like wearing gloves at all times, regularly sanitizing all high contact surfaces, and handwashing at least every hour. But we’re also taking new steps to set a new safety standard,” the California-headquartered company now crows on its website.
