The fast-casual burrito chain saw same-store sales drop 2.5% for the quarter and 1.7% year over year. It also projected flat sales in 2026, which sent shares tumbling as much as 11% in after-hours trading, CNBC reported This came despite total revenue increasing 5.4% to $11.9 billion in 2025, the company said in its earnings report. Chipotle management and analysts attributed the drop in sales to weakened consumer demand, especially among younger and lower-income diners — a trend other fast-casual and fast-food chains have also faced in recent years. “A particularly challenged cohort is the 25- to 35-year-old age group,” Chipotle CEO Scott Boatwright told investors in October. “This group is facing several headwinds, including unemployment, increased student loan repayment and slower real wage growth.
