What started out as a medical data breach affecting 10.5 million customers has grown into a much bigger attack that may have compromised the private data of up to 25 million people across the US, including 15 million in Texas alone. An unauthorized third party accessed the systems of business services provider Conduent from Oct. 21, 2024 until the breach was discovered on Jan. 13, 2025. A ransomware group known as SafePlay said it was responsible for the breach , which exposed private data including full legal names, addresses, Social Security numbers , health insurance details and medical information, all of which could be used to commit identify theft.
