Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced on Dec. 19 that his Virtual Currency Unit indicted a local 23-year-old man for allegedly posing as the exchange's representative, making about 100 Coinbase users believe that their digital assets are at the risk of getting hacked, and tricking them into transferring their assets to a new wallet that he controlled. The DA's Office further claimed that the defendant's home IP address was linked to multiple wallets associated with the theft of crypto assets. He also used online forums to recruit others to work for him and even brag about his criminal exploits, the Office further claimed.
