United Technologies (NYSE: UTX ) confirms on its call that it will separate into three independent companies with the completion of the Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL ) deal. The company had been pushed by both Bill Ackman and Dan Loeb to think about breaking into stand-alones for its aerospace, climate-control and elevator units. That suggests execs indeed were leaning toward breaking up the company as soon as it closed the deal. United was already likely to sell assets like its fire, safety and security business as it looked to cut debt. UTX is after hours.
