Total carloads for the week rose 0.6% to 218,101 carloads, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 229,244 containers and trailers, dropping 3.8%. Six of the 10 carload commodity groups posted a year-over-year increase for the week. They included motor vehicles and parts, petroleum and petroleum products, and coals. Commodity groups that fell year-over-year for the week included grain, nonmetallic minerals, and forest products. North American rail volume for the week, on 12 reporting U.S., Canadian and Mexican railroads was 323,563 carloads, flat year-over-year, and 305,358 intermodal units, down 6%. Canadian railroads reported 89,460 carloads for the week, up 0.5%, and 64,914 intermodal units, down 13.2%. Mexican railroads reported 16,002 carloads for the week, down 9.4%, and 11,200 intermodal units, down 4.3%.
