Vitale, 52, assumed the role of creative director at the storied Italian fashion house earlier this year after Donatella Versace stepped down . Donatella Versace, 70, took over following her brother Gianni Versace's murder in 1997. The brand confirmed Vitale's exit to USA TODAY Thursday, Dec. 4, saying they "mutually agreed to part ways" and that his last day would be Dec. 12. "We would like to sincerely thank Dario for his outstanding contribution to the development of the brand's creative strategy during this transition period, and we wish him all the very best in his future endeavors," Lorenzo Bertelli, Versace's executive chairman, said in a statement. A new creative director would be brought on soon, the brand said, but revealed in the meantime, the design house would operate under the guidance of Emmanuel Gintzburger, chief executive officer of Versace.
