The yield on the 10-year benchmark rose as much as three basis points to 2.47%, the highest level since mid-March. The euro, which had its worst daily drop in more than a year on Wednesday, weakened further. Traders pared bets on ECB rate cuts after US inflation topped forecasts and now anticipate 76 basis points of easing this year, about 10 basis points less than at the start of the week. While a first move in June is still the base case, it's no longer fully priced. Economists expect interest rates to be held unchanged on Thursday and will be scrutinizing remarks by President Christine Lagarde after the decision. The ECB has previously indicated it will lower borrowing costs from June. “Lagarde's reassurance of a first ECB rate cut in June should calm investors' nerves,” said Commerzbank AG strategist Hauke Siemssen.
