Lee Cole was CEO of the Santa Paula-based avocado distributor from 1999 to 2020, then came out of retirement to lead the company again in 2023. He is also a major shareholder of Calavo and served on the company's board of directors from 1982 to 2021. He has his own avocado farm near Santa Paula, which is one of Calavo's major suppliers. The new CEO, effective Dec. 8, will be B. John Lindeman, the company announced on Nov. 12. He is a member of Calavo's board and was the company's chief financial officer from 2015 to 2020. Since 2020, he has been an executive with Hydrofarm Holdings, an agricultural supply company based in Pennsylvania. When Cole came out of retirement in March 2023, at the age of 83, he signed a three-year contract and said one of his most important jobs would be to find his successor.
