So say Odessa oilman Kirk Edwards and Waco economist Ray Perryman, who explain that the revitalization of the Venezuelan energy industry will take as much as $100 billion and years of work. “It's a nothing burger for oil markets, but it's not without consequences,” Edwards said Tuesday. “I'm struck this morning by how calm the oil markets are following the weekend removal of Venezuela's president. “No spike, no panic. That alone tells you something important: markets don't believe Venezuela is suddenly ‘back' as a meaningful swing producer. “And they're right.” Edwards said the U.S. independent oil stocks were way down except for Chevron and Exxon.
