Politics shaped the beginning of the New Year, as in January 2025, President Trump began his second term with a pledge to back oil and gas. A promise that had the industry hopeful, like local lawmakers. “It's a new day in America. It's great to know that. Somebody is taking up for us,” expressed Representative August Pfluger (Rep.) 11 TX. Mid-year presidential tariffs led to operators drilling less oil, taking down rigs, and seeing oil prices at a four-year low, and seeing hope that slowly began to fade. Kirk Edwards, President of Latigo Petroleum, expressed his view on tariffs earlier in the year. “When you see your product [oil] getting less, and you cost more to drill, then it's not a good situation,” expressed Edwards.
