that could help refill one of Latin America's most important LNG plants. On paper, it looks like exactly the kind of deal a global gas major should want. In practice, it means wading into a geopolitical swamp where sanctions, Russian claims, and Venezuelan politics all collide. WHAT HAPPENED Shell is in advanced talks with Venezuela's government to develop four offshore gas areas near Trinidad and Tobago, according to Reuters. The centerpiece is Dragon, a 4.2 trillion cubic feet gas field that Shell has been trying to move forward for years. A final investment decision could come by the end of 2026. But Dragon is no longer the whole story. Shell is now looking to expand into neighboring areas, including the broader Mariscal Sucre project and the Loran offshore area, which stretches into Trinidadian waters.
