The escalation may have already started. On Jan. 4, federal agents showed up at a Home Depot in Phoenix where large numbers of day laborers typically gather and began chasing and attempting to arrest people, including at least one U.S. citizen, according to advocates and interviews with day laborers. Federal officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection have carried out numerous actions at Home Depot parking lots in the Los Angeles area and other metro areas.
