Related news Chipmakers ON Semiconductor ( ON ) and Tower Semiconductor ( TSEM ) on Monday provided contrasting third-quarter earnings reports. ON Semi beat third-quarter estimates and guided higher for the current quarter, while Tower Semi disappointed on both counts. ON Semiconductor shares rose 6.4%, near 15.55, in premarket trading on the stock market today . Tower Semiconductor shares tumbled 15.9%, near 14.90. ON Semiconductor earned an adjusted 57 cents a share on sales of $1.54 billion in the third quarter. Analysts expected it to earn 51 cents a share on sales of $1.51 billion. On a year-over-year basis, earnings per share rose 30% while sales climbed 11%. "Our strong performance in the third quarter clearly demonstrates the strength of our business, even in face of volatility in a few end-markets," Chief Executive Keith Jackson said in a news release .
