Mitchell Fairbarn, 33, is charged with four counts of "torturing, maiming or killing an animal kept for companionship or pleasure," court records reviewed by USA TODAY show. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said in an arrest report that Fairbarn entered the habitat around 5 a.m. local time on March 3 and grabbed a bird, according to KLAS-TV. The station reported that officers alleged that he injured several other birds in the incident. Fairbarn told police, according to the report, that he entered the habitat because he saw a flamingo in distress , KNTV reported. He told police that he popped a flamingo's wing back into place but the report states that he pulled the wing out of its body, according to the station. The report also states he chased and attempted to pin down a second bird , according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
