American Airlines passengers who buy basic economy tickets will no longer be eligible to earn miles or points toward status in the carrier's AAdvantage loyalty program. "Customers who purchase a Basic Economy ticket on December 17, 2025, and beyond will not earn AAdvantage miles or Loyalty Points towards AAdvantage status. Basic Economy customers will continue to receive one free personal item and one free carry-on bag, free snacks, soft drinks and in-flight entertainment," Tiffany Valdez, a spokesperson for American Airlines, told USA TODAY in a statement. The move mirrors similar restrictions on basic economy tickets that are already in place at other airlines. ?
