The S&P 500 leaped 2.5 per cent and is heading toward its best day in 10 months. Just a day before, worries about high oil prices because of the war had sent the main measure of Wall Street's health more than nine per cent below its all-time high set early this year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 938 points, or 2.1 per cent, as of 2:25 p.m. Eastern time, after earlier climbing as many as 1,102 points. The Nasdaq composite surged 3.3 per cent. The rebound came as drops for oil prices took pressure off Wall Street. The price for a barrel of Brent crude oil, the international standard, fell 2.8 per cent to US$104.42. Benchmark U.S. crude erased a gain from the morning and fell one per cent to $101.88. Oil prices have been dictating the U.S. stock market's sharp swings since the war began, with Brent shooting from roughly $70 per barrel to as high as $119 at times.
