Comparable sales fell by 7.3% during the quarter to miss the consensus expectation for a decline of 2.6%. The U.S. retail segment saw a comparable sales drop of 7.4% and the Canada retail segment recorded a comparable sales decline of 9.2%. Gross margin fell to 27.5% of sales from 29.2% a year ago. Designer Brands ( DBI ) ended the quarter with 642 stores and vs. 639 stores a year ago. On the balance sheet, DBI had a cash position of $49.2M at the end of the quarter and $160.9M available for borrowings under its senior secured asset-based revolving credit facility. DBI's debt position at the end of the quarter was $427.1M vs. $281.0M a year ago and inventory was $571.3M vs. $605.7M a year ago Looking ahead, Designer Brands ( DBI ) guided for full-year net sales growth in the low single digits and EPS of $0.70 to $0.80 vs. $0.81 consensus.
