The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' Standards Division, who monitors retail locations for price scanning errors and overcharging, shared its findings for the first quarter of 2024 on Tuesday. Raleigh Walmart among 70 stores fined for ‘excessive errors' and overcharging NC customers The department reported it has collected fines from 14 stores across the state, one being a Raleigh Sheetz at 5200 New Bern Avenue. Collectively, the 14 stores facing fines have paid penalties totaling $256,870. Of all 14 stores penalized, 11 of them were Family Dollar locations. Four of the Family Dollar stores are facing additional fines after follow-up inspections, totaling an additional $24,295. Compared to the fines being racked up by these Family Dollar locations, the fine faced by the Sheetz on New Bern Avenue is fairly minor — $2,955. An initial inspection at the Sheetz in October 2023 inspected a lot of 25 items and found that five price scanning errors were made,
