Shares of Quest Diagnostics Inc. [d: dgx] gained 8.5% in premarket trading on Tuesday after the diagnostics maker announced a COVID-19 antibody testing program for consumers when the request for a test is approved by a doctor. The company said people can request the test online, a physician will review the order, and then they have to visit a patient service center to have their blood drawn. An antibody test is believed to show whether someone has been previously infected with COVID-19, even if they were asymptomatic at the time of infection; however, it's unclear whether antibodies promise immunity to future COVID-19 infections or if they do, how long that immunity lasts. Widespread antibody testing has been held up as key to the re-opening of the U.S. economy. To get tested at a Quest center, people cannot have had symptoms of COVID-19 within the last 10 days, and they have to wear a mask to the testing center and undergo a contact-less temperature check.
