S&P Global Ratings downgraded Walt Disney Co.'s rating to A-minus on Thursday, citing the impact on the entertainment company of COVID-19 which has shuttered its theme parks and kept TV and film studio productions on hold. "Disney's theme parks won't likely return to normal capacity utilization at the same rate as the overall economy even after stay-at-home restrictions are eased and the theme parks are allowed to reopen," S&P said in a statement. "Continued government-imposed social distancing and, longer term, consumer concerns about attending public events will likely retard theme park attendance." S&P expects the company's adjusted leverage to climb well above 3.0 times for the next two years and to only decline below that in 2022. The rating agency is keeping the rating on CreditWatch Negative, meaning it could downgrade again in the near term.
