While Carano's run as an MMA fighter was brief (just eight fights from 2006 to 2009), she became the sport's first female mainstream star. That culminated with a watershed moment in her final bout on August 15, 2009, when she and Cris Cyborg became the first women to headline a major professional MMA card under the Strikeforce banner, which aired on Showtime and drew more than half-a-million viewers. After MMA, Carano, now 43, parlayed her popularity into an acting career, appearing in action movies such as "Haywire" (2011), "Fast & Furious 6" (2013) and "Deadpool" (2016), among other film and television roles. But her first truly big break came in 2019 when she was cast as bounty hunter Cara Dune on "The Mandalorian," the popular Disney+ series from the "Star Wars" universe that has since spawned its own spin-off shows and an upcoming feature film, "The Mandalorian and Grogu," set to premiere May 22.
