While Carano's run as an MMA fighter was brief (just eight fights from 2006 to 2009), she became the sport's first female mainstream star. That culminated with a watershed moment in her final bout on August 15, 2009, when she and Cris Cyborg became the first women to headline a major professional MMA card under the Strikeforce banner, which aired on Showtime and drew more than half-a-million viewers. After MMA, Carano, now 43, parlayed her popularity into an acting career, appearing in action movies such as "Haywire" (2011), "Fast & Furious 6" (2013) and "Deadpool" (2016), among other film and television roles.
